
Hanks was seen with Ron Howard in his next roleas the Commander and Astronaut Jim Lovell in Apollo 13 (1995). The movie's performances as well as Kevin Bacon's performance in general were favorable by the critics. The film garnered nine Academy Award nominations and won two. The following year, Hanks starred in Disney/Pixar's computer-animated film Toy Story (1995), as the voice of Sheriff Woody. He made his directorial debut one year later with the film You Do! The story tells of the downfall and rise of a 1960s rock group. Hanks also takes on the role of a music producer. Time magazine's Richard Schickel called it "charming", while most experts agree that Hanks performance earned him a spot in the top romantic comedy stars of in his generation.
